Transform your outdoor space with our Yellow Balau decking boards, showcasing a stunning mix of light and dark brown tones for a modern look. Resilient and naturally resistant to pests and decay, these boards intensify in colour when exposed to moisture. The dense hardwood boards offer a variety of brown shades that seamlessly blend together for a contemporary finish. Please be aware that Balau may have pinworm holes, but these do not compromise the wood's durability.
One of our greatest strengths is our well-organized delivery system. Whether we use external couriers or our own fleet of vehicles, we ensure your decking arrives promptly and in excellent condition. Delivery charges are calculated based on your postcode, the distance to your location, and the length and weight of the materials. For more details, please see our Delivery Terms & Conditions.
Board Spacing
Leave a minimum 4mm gap between boards. For 145mm wide boards, use a 5–6mm gap. Balau may expand or shrink slightly with climate changes, though this is usually not visible.
Sub-Frame Material
We do not supply softwood for sub-frames. Please source softwood from a standard timber merchant.
Fixing Methods
Face Screwing (Traditional Method)
Screw through the face of the board into the sub-frame. Always pilot drill and drill 2mm oversize to allow for expansion. Holes can be plugged for a cleaner finish. Maintain 400mm joist spacing (centre to centre).
Hidden Fixings (Deckwise System)
Boards must be edge-grooved to accept hidden fixings. Each clip screws into the sub-frame and slots into the board edge, automatically providing 4mm spacing. Boards can be pre-grooved or grooved on-site using a biscuit jointer. Hidden fixings are not recommended for oak decking.
Installation Tools
Use a hardwood decking wrench to straighten bent boards during installation. This self-locking tool holds boards in place while fastening.
- Clean regularly with a soft brush or broom to remove debris and prevent mould or mildew.
- Use a mild detergent and water for deeper cleaning; avoid harsh chemicals.
- Apply a UV-protective oil or sealant annually to maintain colour and protect against weathering.
- Inspect for loose fixings or warped boards and tighten or replace as needed.
- Avoid standing water—ensure proper drainage to extend the life of your decking.
- Re-oil or refinish the surface if it begins to look dry or faded.
